Regarding your question about the weekend plans, I think starting Saturday morning would work best since the weather forecast shows clear skies until late afternoon. We should aim to get the raised beds set up by noon so the soil has time to settle before we plant. I already picked up the lumber from the supply store yesterday and it is currently sitting in my garage. The cedar planks are about 6 feet long each and we will need at least 12 of them for the frame. I also grabbed some landscape fabric to line the bottom and keep the weeds out. For the soil mix, I was thinking a combination of compost and topsoil would give us good drainage. If we run short on time Saturday, we can always finish up on Sunday morning before the game starts. Let me know if you need me to pick up any additional supplies or if you want to adjust the start time.

I also checked with the local nursery about seedling availability and they said they will have tomatoes and peppers ready by next week. We could pick those up on Saturday afternoon if the beds are done. I will bring extra gloves and a couple of trowels just in case anyone forgets theirs.

Thanks for sending over your thoughts on the book chapters. I agree that the author approach to character development in the later sections really shifts the tone of the narrative. I found myself re-reading chapter 12 a couple of times because the pacing felt different from the earlier parts of the story. The way the setting is described in that chapter makes the whole scene feel more immersive. I think the author intentionally slows things down there to build tension. For our discussion next Tuesday, I was planning to focus on the symbolism around the garden and how it ties back to the opening scene. There are several parallel passages that I noticed on my second read through. I also made some notes about the dialogue style in the conversations between the two main characters. If we have time, I would love to hear what everyone thought about the ending and whether it felt satisfying or intentionally open-ended. Let me know if you want to coordinate our discussion points beforehand.

I printed out the discussion guide from the library website and it has some interesting prompts about the use of weather as a mood device. I can bring extra copies if anyone needs one. Also, I volunteered to bring snacks so I was thinking a simple cheese board and some fruit would work well for the group.
