The poster explains health and safety laws while listing what employers and their workers should do.
If you employ anyone, you must either:
- display the health and safety law poster where your workers can easily read it
- provide each worker with the equivalent health and safety law downloadable leaflet
There are various versions of the health and safety law poster, so you can select the most appropriate one for your business. You can:
HSE also provides health and safety law pocket cards. These are a legal alternative to the law poster and are easy to distribute for your workers to carry with them.
A worker was killed when he was crushed by machinery in a cement bagging plant.
The worker was found crushed to death by a 1.6 tonne concrete weight, which was used to raise pallets full of 25kg bags of cement.
HSE’s investigation found a large section of the equipment’s perimeter fencing had routinely been removed over a prolonged period. This allowed full access into the dangerous parts of the machinery, including moving parts that presented a risk of serious injury or death.

Farm Safety Week runs from 20 to 24 July 2026, and is supported by HSE.
The latest provisional data shows that agriculture, forestry and fishing continues to have the highest rate of work-related fatal injuries of any major industry in Great Britain.
There were 29 fatalities in 2025 to 2026, including 22 workers and 7 members of the public. Of those members of the public, 3 were children, while half of all worker fatalities were to those aged over 65.
Vehicles continue to be the leading cause of fatal incidents, alongside falls from height, falling objects, animals and machinery.
