Following a review of its approval, HSE has decided that mepanipyrim no longer meets the approval criteria set out in assimilated Regulation 1107/2009.

On 28 April 2026, HSE issued an ebulletin that proposed withdrawal of the GB approval of mepanipyrim following a review that indicated it no longer met the approval criteria, required under the Regulation. The ebulletin referred to the next stage of the withdrawal process being consultation with trading partners via the World Trade Organization (WTO).
This consultation has now concluded.
Defra and the GB Devolved Governments have given consent for HSE to carry out the decision-making function arising from this review.
The approval of mepanipyrim in GB will now expire and therefore ends on 31 July 2026.
To allow existing stocks to be removed from the supply chain safely, HSE has agreed a phased withdrawal programme:
- producers will be permitted 6 months for sale and distribution (31 January 2027)
- users will be permitted a further 12 months for storage, disposal and use of existing stocks (31 January 2028)
Stakeholders should note that pesticides are in scope of the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) agreement currently being negotiated between the UK and the EU. Once negotiations on the SPS Agreement have concluded, HSE will communicate further on any implications the agreement has for the sector.
