The Name on Everybody’s Lips is Gonna Be… Peptides
Peptides are everywhere, but today we’re not talking about the injectable ones. Copper peptides (GHK-Cu) are showing up in serums, scalp oils, and now oral supplements, promising firmer skin and fuller hair. Copper peptides are naturally occurring complexes that the skin already relies on for repair and regeneration, but our natural stores decline with age. This age-related depletion is what the topical version has historically been used to address.
Research shows that applying copper peptides topically can stimulate fibroblast activity, support collagen and elastin production, and calm inflammation, making it a supportive addition to retinol or vitamin C. "Topical supplementation of copper peptides helps support the skin's natural repair processes, promotes innate levels of collagen, and helps protect against factors that can contribute to the aging process," says Joe Basham, Senior Scientific Communications Manager for NIOD, one of the earliest brands to build a line around the ingredient. He credits the rise to a broader shift in how people shop, saying, "People have started looking beyond traditional 'anti-aging' claims and taking a greater interest in ingredients that work with the skin's natural processes."
The hair side of the story is a bit newer. Copper peptides have long shown up in scalp serums, thought to support blood flow to the follicle and prolong the growth phase of the hair cycle, but brands are now pushing GHK-Cu into oral supplements, too. "What's exciting about oral delivery is the potential to support the hair follicle from within, alongside the nutrients and bioactive compounds that contribute to normal hair growth," says Becca McCarthy, CEO and Co-Founder of
