A couple weeks ago, this subscriber asked me for some advice in the inbox. If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn’t have answered… And: I had plenty of excuses to just ignore the message.
There’s enough to do. But… I remember what it was like to be clueless. And i remember how nervous I was at the beginning of this whole digital business thing, before we had built our systems and scaled up to $150K per month. So I bounced Baby Denning on my leg for five minutes while I gave some honest feedback to this person. I sent it. Went back to Dad Mode. Came back later to discover an email response… SHECOMPLETELYLOSTITTold me I was ignorant. Told me I had no right to send her emails like that. Told me I just didn’t understand her business model. Told me that even though almost everyone failed at her idea, she was special. Told me it was totally sustainable to run her business as she was doing it. And look: I’m not telling you this for sympathy. I’m telling you this so that you the lazy, entitled, angry parts of you don’t win. Today, you have Chat and Claude and Gemini all these bots now optimizing to make you feel good. They will bend over backwards to tell you how smart and clever you are. The result of that is: People have almost no ability to hear hard truths. They have their nice robot nannies to cuddle them and tell them it’s fine. Me?
