Publishing Sales Hit $33.4 Billion in 2025Total estimated industry sales rose 2.5% over 2024, according to the year-end report from the AAP, and the number of books sold inched up 0.4%, to 3.15 billion units. Sales at religious presses saw the largest increase, while sales through physical retailers had a solid increase in the year.

Spending on College Course Materials Falls AgainAs the use of digital course materials and Affordable Access programs grow, student spending on materials has declined 44% in the last decade. In the 2025–2026 school year, college students spent an average of $338 on all course materials, compared to $441 the year before.
