Publishing Sales Hit $33.4 Billion in 2025Total estimated industry sales rose 2.5% over 2024, according to the year-end report from the AAP, and the number of books sold inched up 0.4%, to 3.15 billion units. Sales at religious presses saw the largest increase, while sales through physical retailers had a solid increase in the year. more
OverDrive Expands European FootprintThe digital content provider has acquired Divibib, a German company that operates Onleihe, a digital lending platform for public libraries in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. more
Libro.fm to Offer E-booksDigital audiobook platform Libro.fm will unveil a beta version of e-book access to its independent bookstore partners, librarians, and influencers this fall, then launch e-book content for subscribers in 2027. CEO and cofounder Mark Pearson called e-books “a natural next step” for the company. more
Spotify Adds More AI-Powered Discovery Tools for AudiobooksThe new features include the ability to automatically create audiobook playlists with a prompt, ask natural language questions about books’ contents or reading recommendations, and a more robust system to track books in a series. more
Sourcebooks Romance Grows with New Hires, PromotionsThe publisher’s romance division has tapped Disney Publishing’s Lauren Burniac (l.) as editorial director and Simon Pulse’s Rebecca Kuss (r.) as senior editor in what the publisher calls a “significant expansion of investment” in the genre. more

Spending on College Course Materials Falls AgainAs the use of digital course materials and Affordable Access programs grow, student spending on materials has declined 44% in the last decade.
