Also, she has been a member of the White House press corps for 27 years. As a White House correspondent, April Ryan has covered five presidential administrations and done one-on-one interviews with both Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, George W. Bush and Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton, and others. She has been a legal analyst for both CNN and MSNBC.
Donald Trump took an instant dislike to Ryan. There was a well-publicized incident shortly after his first inauguration at a press conference where Trump went off on inner cities and urban crime, making thinly veiled racial comments. Ryan spoke up, asking if he intended to meet with the Congressional Black Caucus, and Trump told her to set up the meeting. “Are they friends of yours?” he sneered. She reminded him she was a reporter, not a member of Congress, and the relationship went downhill from there.
April has always known how the media should handle this president.
