Dear Spartan families,
Welcome to the new school year!
Hoping your #FirstDay went well!!
The PTSA is back and we would love to have you join us as we prepare to support our school.
We have a number of important items in this first PTSA newsletter of 2026-2027:
Our first PTSA meeting of the year is September 15 at 730pm via Zoom (you can register for the meeting here).
PTSA Membership Drive -- please help us top 400 members!
New PTSA officers elected for the 2026-2027 year:
During our June membership meeting, the following people were elected at PTSA officers:
> President - Robert Johnson
> Vice President - Nettia Banton
> Vice President - Danielle Boykin
> Treasurer - Winston Banton
> Secretary - Kelly Hempson
You can find the list of Committees and Committee chairs on the PTSA website here - https://wshsptsa.net/about/committee/.
If you are interested in finding out how you can help with the PTSA, please e-mail us at wshsptsa@gmail.com
In case you missed it!: Bus and Kiss-and-Ride Changes!
The PTSA shares the concerns of many parents regarding the potential impacts on student safety and arrival / departure school traffic. The County expects students to use the traffic signals at Tuttle Rd. and Hillside/Forrester to cross Rolling Rd, and FCPS staff have worked with VDOT to extend the pedestrian crossing time and signal timing.
The PTSA will work with the school and local officials to identify and address concerns.
Please see this information graphic provided by Fairfax County Council PTA.
Two things you can do to help:
(1) Notify the PTSA of any issues you experience or witness so that we can document it and use it in our advocacy. We are interested in issues that arise on both the streets around the school and on school grounds:
(2) Join the PTSA! Strength in numbers helps us be better advocates. The WSHS PTSA has an advocacy committee and will be providing information and updates to PTSA members throughout the year. Don’t just complain about things on Facebook; join us to stay informed and help improve things! You can learn more about the PTSA at www.wshsptsa.net .
