Roadrunner Rundown

August 24, 2026

Principal's Message

Dear Marshall Road Families,

We had a wonderful first day of school!  While spending time in the kindergarten rooms today, I was fortunate to overhear a brilliant response from one of our youngest minds. When asked if it is ok to color outside of the lines, one young lady immediately replied, “It’s okay because everyone is learning and if you do your best and you are learning, that’s okay!”. Yes!  Everyone is learning and striving to do their best. What a perfect encapsulation of how we can consider ourselves and others!

Sixth grade students were already contemplating the four parts of the data cycle or forming equations based on numbers that are relevant to their life experience. The overall message behind these activities was the importance of clear evidence and attempting hard tasks.

Please be patient with dismissal for buses and K&R this week as it takes additional time for students and staff to learn the routines.

Tuesday Folders (yellow) will be sent home with students each week starting tomorrow. This is a major way we communicate school and PTA news. Please read important start of school year information, and ask your student to return forms and the yellow folder ASAP.

Please send a labeled water bottle and snack with your child daily.  Every class has a snack break AM or PM depending on when their lunch time.

There will be no school on September 4 and 7.

Have a great week.

Much peace.

Matthew Chapman, Toni Nauflett and Kelly Willis

School Events and Information

Make School Attendance a Priority

Take a look at the FCPS School Year Calendar to ensure that trips coincide with school holidays to minimize missed instruction.  Every day of learning is a day toward success.

While we do recognize the importance of travel and family time, travel during the academic year is considered an unexcused absence by FCPS/VDOE. You must contact the attendance office if your student will be absent due to travel.  Per VDOE, five unexcused absences generates an automated attendance message regarding missed school days.FCPS Attendance Policies

Summer Reading Challenge

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Summer Reading Challenge over the last few months! Remember, forms are due by September 3rd. Students can hand in completed forms using this link, or they can hand paper copies into their classroom teacher during the first few weeks of school. Please be sure that students’ first AND last names are included on forms. Feel free to reach out to Librarian, Lisa Hoffman, anytime with questions (lahoffman@fcps.edu).

School Bus Student ID Cards

FCPS is introducing a new school bus navigation system as part of their ongoing commitment to strengthening layered safety and security programs. The new system includes student ID cards and the FCPS My Ride app (launching soon) for families of students who ride the bus. Together, these improvements will help provide safer, more reliable transportation for more than 130,000 students who ride more than 1,630 FCPS school buses each day. We will be distributing badges to our students who ride a bus next week.  In the meantime, students will be able to ride a bus without the ID card.
