So we were going over the layout for the community garden plot rotation and realized the tomato section is way too close to the peppers again. Last season the bees were kind of confused with all that cross traffic and the yield came out a little mixed. I think if we swap the basil row with the snap peas it will give the pollinators a better flight corridor and the soil can rest in the right order. My neighbor has some compost tea brewing and said it will be ready by Thursday if we want to use it before tilling. She is also trying to source marigold starts from the nursery on Millbrook, but they sell out fast in spring. Let me know if you want me to pick up extra seed packets when I go. I was thinking of trying that new variety of butter lettuce that tolerates heat better. If you have time this weekend maybe we can stake the cherry tomatoes and run the drip line before the dry spell hits.
Also the shed lock is sticking again and I was going to grab some graphite powder. If you have tools out there just leave them and I will sort it after the hose repair. We should also decide who is doing the watering on Mondays now that schedules changed at the clinic. It takes about twenty minutes if the barrels are full. I can take Wednesdays and Fridays but someone needs to check the seedlings under the shade cloth in the afternoon when it is above ninety. The sunflowers are almost at the trellis line and if we do not tie them back soon they lean into the walkway. I have a few bamboo stakes behind the wheelbarrow. Just do not use the green twine because it frays. I found a roll of jute in the bin near the clay pots that works better and breaks down nicely by fall.

For the potluck on Saturday I was wondering if a savory bread and a lentil salad would be enough for two dishes. My cousin is bringing a roasted vegetable platter and someone from the ceramics studio said they would do a lemon tart. I can grab extra baguettes from the bakery near the library if you think we will run short. The weather report looks mild so we can set up the folding tables under the big oak and use the string lights from the shed. Did you end up borrowing the camp chairs from Maya or should I bring the stack from my trunk? I also found a large insulated jug that works great for the mint tea. We just need to remember to rinse it out really well because last time it held mulled cider and everything tasted like cloves for a week.
Oh and I started a new sketchbook with those charcoal pencils you left at my place. The paper is nice and heavy but it smudges if you do not spray it with fixative the same day. I have been practicing quick gestures of people waiting at the bus stop and the produce stand workers early in the morning. If the light is good this weekend maybe we can draw the boats at the marina as the fog lifts. I still owe you a few sheets of the smooth bristol board. There is a bag of small canvas scraps in the closet too if you want to try a mixed media piece with the old maps from the library box. Do not forget your kneaded eraser because I used mine down to a nub and the graphite dust is all over my tote bag.
