The Intercept just revealed that a key expert witness in the Prairieland “antifa” trial was denied pre-trial access to a defendant, preventing the jury from hearing evidence that could have undermined the government’s case. This new revelation is the latest in a series of major flaws that The Intercept has exposed in the Prairieland trial as several defendants prepare to appeal their convictions. We’re now suing local city officials and police to force the release of public records relevant to the case that they’ve so far withheld from public view. But we’ve already spent our entire legal budget for the year, and to see this case through, we need a new influx of donations. Will you donate $5 to help expose the truth about Prairieland? If you’ve saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: The Prairieland defendants are a group of activists who were sentenced to more than 560 years of prison combined, following a protest outside the Prairieland ICE detention center in Alvarado, Texas. The Prairieland trial was the Trump administration’s first successful prosecution under the NSPM-7 memorandum, which targets left-leaning groups under the guise of fighting domestic terrorism, and the Justice Department has cited the Prairieland case as a model for additional prosecutions elsewhere. However, our reporting has found that key pieces of information were omitted from pre-trial discovery and prevented the defense from presenting a full picture of what transpired on the night of the Prairieland protest. Meanwhile, local authorities continue to stonewall our open records requests for public documents related to the case that have not yet come to light. It’s an outrageous miscarriage of justice, and in order to reveal the truth, we need an urgent influx of reader donations to ensure we have the funding to see this fight through. Will you donate $5 to help The Intercept expose the truth about Prairieland?
Thank you,
