Week of October 12-16, 2026
The KG Fall Book Fair is almost here! Students will preview the fair with their classes this Friday, October 16, and Monday, October 19, before shopping begins Tuesday, October 20. Now is the perfect time to set up your child's eWallet and print a copy to send to school! Please remember that eWallets need to be printed so the barcode can be scanned at checkout.
Want to shop WITH your child? Mark your calendar for Grownups & Donuts on Tuesday, October 20, or Family Night on Wednesday, October 21. These are the only two opportunities for parents to shop with their children. Otherwise, students will shop with their class during their scheduled shopping time.
What You Need to Do This Week:
- Donate coats: Drop off freshly washed, gently used coats in the KG lobby collection box.
- Last chance to order an Aaron Reynolds book (Friday deadline): Get 20% off a signed book ahead of his November 9 visit!
- Set up your child's eWallet and PRINT IT OUT: Be sure to send the printed eWallet to school on your child's scheduled shopping day so it can be scanned at checkout.
- Volunteer at the Book Fair!

Complimentary pizza will be provided by The Za Father, a new local KG family-owned business specializing in mobile artisan pizza catering!
Planning to attend? Shop the Book Fair before the meeting, grab some delicious pizza, and hear what's happening with the PTA!
Coat Drive:
Throughout October, KG is collecting gently used coats for families at Lemon Road Elementary School! Families are already requesting coats, so donations are especially appreciated and needed!
Have coats your family has outgrown or no longer needs? Please wash coats before donating and drop them off in the collection box in the KG lobby anytime during October. Thank you for helping support our neighboring school community!
Faculty Fuel:
Our first Faculty Fuel of the school year kicked off today! Thank you to the KG families who signed up to bring a little midweek pick-me-up for our wonderful teachers and staff!
Twice a month on Wednesdays, KG families bring baked goods, snacks, drinks, coffee- ANY kind of treat to brighten our teachers' and staff's day. Bring or bake whatever you'd like, no need to provide enough for everyone!
One spot remains for October 28, and November spots are open! Sign up for a Wednesday here!
Current Volunteer Opportunities:
- Book fair volunteers: We especially need volunteers during Grown-Ups and Donuts! Sign up here. Want to volunteer during your child’s class visit? Check the Book Fair Class Schedule.
- Food Bus: Have 30 minutes to spare on a Friday afternoon? Help deliver rescued food from KG to the SHARE of McLean Food Pantry. Sign up for a Friday delivery here. Middle and high school students can earn service hours, too!
- French Week Volunteers: French Week is coming to KG November 16–20! We’re looking for parent volunteers to help make the week a success. Interested in helping? Email Mme. Jarecke at ajarecke@fcps.edu.
Community Submissions:
- CommuniKids Preschool: Starting January 2027, CommuniKids’ Falls Church location will welcome children ages 18 months+ for French, Spanish, and Mandarin immersion programs. Applications are open now!
