FIRST FULL WEEK!

Dear Fairhill Families,

Can you believe this week is our only full week of school in November? We are making the most of it here at Fairhill!

As we look ahead to Thanksgiving and Winter Break, some families have asked what they can do to keep their students engaged during these breaks. We wanted to remind you about the Student Websites section of the Fairhill website. These are all wonderful, FCPS-approved resources that your students can access from a home computer.

This year, we wanted to highlight a new resource called Typing Club. With our updated language arts curriculum being more writing-intensive, we have noticed that many students are still more comfortable writing on paper than on a computer. Typing Club provides an excellent opportunity to help students build their typing skills and become more confident in their digital writing abilities.

We look forward to seeing everyone at Thanksgiving Lunch next week! More information and an RSVP form can be found below.

Take good care,

Maura and Ted

Thanksgiving Luncheon

Thanksgiving Lunch

Families are cordially invited to our annual Thanksgiving Luncheon. Please join us during your child’s assigned Thanksgiving lunch time (please note there are some changes in lunch times in order to accommodate as many families as possible.)

RSVP & Volunteer Sign Up: We are asking families to RSVP to our Thanksgiving Luncheon on November 26th so our cafeteria can make sure we have enough food. Don't worry if plans change - this is for planning purposes only.  Thanksgiving Lunch can't run smoothly without volunteers.  Please consider volunteering by indicating your availability on the RSVP form using THIS LINK.

Invitation/Flyer with updated lunch times FOUND HERE. Hope you can make it!

Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey

If you have not completed FEDERAL IMPACT AID SURVEY yet you will find a printed copy in your students’ Tuesday Folder.  Please fill this out for each student in your household, whether your family is federally connected or not.  FCPS asks for 100% participation in this survey.  Please complete the survey even if you feel it does not apply to you.  If you prefer to complete the survey online please click here.   If you have any questions feel free to contact Anne Kane, ackane@fcps.edu.    Thank you for your cooperation!

Library

Greetings from the library! We printed overdue notices today, so if your child receives one in their Tuesday folder, please help them locate the books and return the late books to school. Thank you for your help!

FLE PARENT INFORMATION

Students in grades K-6 participate in Family Life Education (FLE) instruction through their classroom teacher. Students in grades 4-6 receive instruction in a human growth and development unit and an emotional and social health unit. Prior to the teaching of these lessons, Fairhill will be hosting an informational session where families can preview the Family Life Education media and lessons in Schoology and talk with school staff about the program. This is not a presentation. The info session will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 from 4:15 to 4:45 pm. This session will be held virtually. If you are interested in attending, please complete this google form so we can send a Zoom link prior to the meeting.  All program materials and media for all grade levels will be available for your review at this time. If you have any questions, please email our FLE Lead Teacher, Mrs. Barnett at MEBarnett@fcps.edu.

Fairfax County Youth Survey

The Fairfax County Youth Survey, a collaboration between the Fairfax County School Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, is a comprehensive, anonymous, and voluntary survey given each year to students in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12. The survey examines behaviors, experiences, and other factors that influence the health and well-being of Fairfax County's youth. The results, published each year at https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/youthsurvey, identify trends and areas of need, providing a snapshot of the county's youth and serving as a barometer of the community's effectiveness in fostering healthy choices in young people. You are able to view the survey here.

Fairhill Elementary School will be administering the Fairfax County Youth Survey on 11/20 at 12:05 – 12:55pm.

If you do not wish for your child to take part in the Youth Survey, please complete the form linked here and return it to your child's school counselor no later than November 8, 2024. If you have already opted your child out of this survey using the Parental Digital Consent Portal you do not need to provide additional information to the school counselor.
