Starting on Monday, December 2, the eastbound lanes on Columbia Pike between South Barton Street and South Courthouse Road will be closed for construction.
This is part of Segment D of the Columbia Pike Multimodal Improvements project.
- All vehicle traffic will shift to the westbound lanes, one lane in each direction.
- Driveways along the south side of Columbia Pike will remain open to allow access to retailers.
- Pedestrian access will be maintained.
- This closure will be in effect 24 hours/7 days a week until early 2025.
This closure will allow crews to construct the new storm sewer and begin curb & gutter and asphalt reconstruction. The 24/7 closures will allow the construction to be completed more quickly.
This week, crews have switched the signals at Columbia Pike & South Quincy Street and will proceed to the intersection of Columbia Pike & South George Mason Drive.
The work hours for these tasks are 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM on activity days. There may be periods in which the signals will be out of operation during the switchover. At this time police will control traffic in the intersection.
- Columbia Pike & South George Mason Drive
- Thursday, November 21: Switch power on signals
- Friday, November 22: Removal of old signals
When the old signals are being removed, the right lanes of all corners of each intersection will be closed. Police will be onsite to guide the flow of traffic.
Please join Arlington County staff for an open house on the S Glebe Road and 9th Street S Intersection Improvement Project on Thursday, December 5 at 6:30 pm at the Walter Reed Community Center.
