Music and dance: The Hilltoppers: Thursday afternoons can become everyone’s favourite afternoon with the Big Band music of The Hilltoppers. Every Thursday from 1 to 3:30 p.m. there is live Big Band at the Minnow Lake Legion on Weller Street. Entry price is $5 at the door. The Hilltoppers’ last appearance at the legion hall for 2024 will be on Dec. 19.
Art: Afternoons with Artists: An art mentorship program is offered on Thursday afternoons by artists Jennifer Johnson and Carmen Martorella. Food: It’s Basic is an award-winning documentary that illuminates the problems related to poverty and food insecurity. It’s Basic will be screened at the Sudbury Indie Cinema, 162 Mackenzie St., on Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m.

Dinner theatre: Sudbury Performance Group is excited to bring audiences an evening of laughter, drama and delicious dining with the upcoming dinner theatre production of Till Beth Do Us Part, a comedy by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. The show runs Nov. 20-23, with a special matinee on Nov. 23, all held at Thorneloe University on the Laurentian University campus. Books: Tender, beautiful and unflinching, Sylvia Barnard’s second historical fiction, A Hyphenated Life, is an expertly woven coming-of-age story of Angelika Langer, the daughter of German immigrant parents living in a Northern Ontario mining town in the 1960s. Barnard is returning for a series of book signings and readings: Main branch of the Greater Sudbury Public Library, 74 Mackenzie St.: Nov. 21 at 6 p.m.
Music (buy tickets): In anticipation of Black Friday, Northern Lights Festival Boreal is offering an exclusive promotion on tickets for its 2025 festival. Community: The Greater Sudbury Public Library is undertaking community engagement to help shape its first-ever long-term library plan. Arts: The Nouveau Louvre returns to the Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario until Jan. 3. The Nouveau Louvre, a holiday art sale, returns for its 29th year. For this occasion, the gallery walls will be plastered with works by your favourite local and regional artists. Shop in person at the GNO, 27 Larch St. (inside Place des Arts) or online at gn-o.org/en. All works are sold for $225. Profits are shared between the artist ($150) and the GNO ($75).
