1 big thing: GOP cheers Gaetz's exit

Congressional Republicans raised a collective cheer today as Matt Gaetz withdrew his nomination for attorney general.

  • "This is the only decent thing Matt Gaetz has ever done," one House Republican told Axios.
  • "There was no path for him, and he knew that," Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) told Axios. "I am surprised it happened this quick. But ... it was going to happen."
