A movie event 124 years in the making is bound to carry some expectations. In the case of
Wicked, the film adaptation of the musical whose source material was first published in 1900, fans who were expecting a leap away from Broadway’s popular and beloved musical will be either pleased or disappointed by the “faithful reprise”, as reviewer Aparita Bhandari calls it
in her review.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the stars belt out the songs and the ensemble production leaves little room for individual character development. Maybe the biggest surprise is that the story is unfinished (yes, part two is expected to be released about a year from now).
