Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met today with the Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer. The Secretary reiterated the importance of bringing all of the hostages home and ending the war in Gaza. The Secretary and Minister continued discussions on how to chart a path forward in the post-conflict period that provides for governance, security, and reconstruction, which the Secretary emphasized was critical for Israel’s security. He discussed the humanitarian situation in Gaza and underscored that Israel must do more to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance throughout Gaza. The Secretary and Minister discussed the importance of implementation of the recently announced ceasefire in Lebanon to allow both Israeli and Lebanese civilians to return safely to their homes and remain there for the long term. The Secretary reaffirmed the United States’ ironclad commitment to Israel’s security against threats from Iran and Iran-backed proxy groups.
