All the Books
Well, not all of them, but a whole lot: the Millions shares its most anticipated titles releasing this winter. Neil Gaiman’s publishers have responded variously to allegations of sexual abuse made against the author by nine women, with only Norton pledging to never publish any new works by him. At HarperCollins’ Harlequin division, a restructuring effort folds two imprints into three others but won’t affect staffing levels, the publisher said. And in the wake of the bankruptcy filing by Diamond Comic Distributors, we took a look at developing stories in comics and graphic novel publishing this year. Amid the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires, Rolling Stone considers the painful prescience of Octavia Butler. The Guardian spotlights the independent publishers and tech innovators working to make African literature available and affordable for African readers. In Literary Hub, Brazilian publisher and Companhia das Letras founder Luis Schwarcz reflects on the meaning of publishing. Smithsonian magazine tells the story of how archeologists discovered Europe’s oldest-known book. And novelist Howard Buten has died at 74.
