1/16/2025 - Splunk HTTP Event Collector (HEC) maintenance
Summary
In order to keep the environment performing well, the CMS Hybrid Cloud team will conduct maintenance on the Cloud instances of the Http Event Collector (HEC) infrastructure this Thursday, January 16th after business hours.
Actions we are taking
- Restart Production HEC Servers
When is this happening?
Start Time: Thursday, 1/16/2025 at 9:00 p.m. ET
End Time: Thursday, 1/17/2025 at 12:00 a.m. ET
Who will be impacted?
Customers will not be impacted by this change.
What is the impact?
Restart Production HEC Servers - There should be no downtime or data loss experienced during the upgrade.
1/17/2025 - Splunk Prod - Resize the Splunk Prod instances from 120 x 24XL's to 48 x 24XL's
Summary
The CMS Hybrid Cloud team will scale down Splunk indexer infrastructure as part of post Open Enrollment (OE) resizing. This is the first of a two-part scale down event on both 1/17/2025 and 1/24/2025.
Actions we are taking
- Downscaling Splunk indexers.
- Splunk and ITSI will be placed in maintenance mode during each downscale event..
- Reducing the size of the index cluster from 120 to 84 on part 1 starting 1/17/2025.
- Reducing the size of the index cluster from 84 to 48 on part 2 starting on 1/24/2025.
When is this happening?
Part 1:
Start Time: Friday, 1/17/2025 at 6:00 pm ET
End Time: Sunday, 1/19/2025 at 11:00 pm ET
Part2:
Start Time: Friday, 1/24/2025 at 6:00 pm ET
End Time: Sunday 1/26/2025 at 11:00 pm ET
Who will be impacted?
DRaaS ITSI, MITG MSI and EMM may have performance impacts when the Cloud Splunk indexers are being configured. Also, CCIC search heads peered to the Splunk environment might be impacted.
What is the impact?
There will be latency in adhoc searches that are performed by customers. Dashboards might also render slowly and have incomplete data while the changes are being propagated.

01/18/2025 - Enterprise JIRA Maintenance
Summary
Enterprise JIRA (https://jiraent.cms.gov) maintenance activity to upgrade version.
Actions we are taking
- Upgrade Enterprise Jira to the latest version 9.12.16 and RDS (PostgreSQL) to 15.7
When is this happening?
Start Time: Saturday, 1/18/2025 at 05:00 a.m. ET

All Enterprise JIRA Users
What is the impact?
Enterprise JIRA (https://jiraent.cms.gov/) production instance will be unavailable during the maintenance window outlined above.

01/18/2025 - Enterprise Testing Services (Selenium Box Hub) Maintenance
Summary
In order to keep up to date with the latest versions and security advisories, the CMS Hybrid Cloud team will be performing maintenance updates on Enterprise Testing tools.
Actions we are taking
- Update Selenium Box Hub and Executors with the latest Amazon Linux 2023 Gold Image for CMS Cloud.
When is this happening?
Start time: Saturday 01/18/2025 at 9:00 a.m. ET
End time: Saturday 01/18/2025 at 11:59 a.m. ET
Who will be impacted?
All AWS Commercial and GovCloud customers of Selenium Box.
What is the impact?
Customers should expect downtime for the service as instances are restarted within the maintenance window.
01/22/2025 - Marketplace SSM patching - DEV/TEST
