Happy Friday, DMV. It’s Jan. 17. Have you checked out your Metro Rewind yet? My colleagues and I have been chatting about our mass transit stats, and the Metro boss just shared his, with a note saying that riders who hit the 1 percent ranking get to be put in a raffle for a chance to join a tour of the transit system’s new control center. Sadly I didn’t make the cut: I’m in the top 8 percent of riders, having taken 219 trips in 2024 and traveled 1,529 miles. That’s fewer trips than the Metro boss took, but more miles traveled. On a separate note … today is the official relaunch of Retropolis — a corner of The Post that explores how decisions, policies and events of the past shape the world today. My colleague Petula Dvorak, a former columnist who has taken on a new role as Retropolis reporter, has a story today about a mysterious illness that plagued a presidential inauguration more than 150 years ago. ☀️ Capital Weather Gang daily digit: 7/10.
